Our eyes don’t life to the horizon; our ears don’t hear the sounds around us. The edge is off our experience, and we pass our days in a routine that is both comfortable and limiting. We wake up one day to find that we have lost our dreams in order to protect our days.”
I’m not sure who wrote this, but I feel that it’s very true.
This experience has broadened by horizons. It has allowed me to observe biomes and endemic species I had never seen. It gave me a more in-depth understanding of ecology and conservation and it even exposed me to some of my roots. As Americans, I think we often-times get used to certain luxuries and certain aspects of our life and we assume that these are all that there is.
However, Western Civilization is only one type of civilization, and it doesn’t make up the world. We need to open our eyes to how others live and how we impact others worldwide. This adventure with OTS helped me better understand that.
